The Community Centre serves the three villages and surrounding area of Hunsonby, Winskill and Little Salkeld in the Eden Valley. Half a mile from the A686, which runs from Penrith (8 miles away) to Alston, the Centre is housed in the former village school which closed in 1974. After extensive renovations and an extension we will be open for bookings as soon as the current COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. To find out more about hiring our beautiful centre visit the Hire page of this site.
In 2017 a new committee was formed to develop a project to renovate the Centre and bring it to modern day standards. More on our facilities can be found here. We were fortunate to have some funds which enabled us to develop plans. Following consultation with residents and potential users, we decided on a plan and began fundraising. Over £300,000 has been raised so far through fundraising and grants.
Thank you to our Supporters:
We needed to raise about £300,000 to achieve our ambition of funding our major project to renovate the Community Centre and make it accessible for everyone. We are delighted to say that we have achieved our target. We have raised over £300,000 from donations, grants and local fundraising. This is an amazing achievement for our community of small villages. Lots of people have helped by organizing and attending events, applying for grants and making donations.
We would particularly like to say ‘thank you’ for the following grants:
We would also like to thank those who organized and supported our ‘Xmas Windows’ event and Xmas shopping evening at Langwathby. Also, Chloë Hanslip, the virtuoso violinist, who played at a recital at Lowther Castle. And finally, the people of Hunsonby, Winskill, Little Salkeld and further afield who have made donations.
Soon we will be taking bookings for our fantastic community space for hire. In the meantime, read more about our facilities and get planning your event.
